It All Begins Here

In this July 2023 report for the Regional Plan Association that is useful for any policymakers seeking to empower and enable self-levy districts (often known as BIDs or BIAs), Tompkins outlines the common challenges small place-management organizations face and what New York City could do to address them. While the report is specific to New York City, the core themes — both challenges and solutions — mirror those of hyperlocal place management entities and public space partners in many cities.

At this September 2023 panel Tompkins joined Georgetown’s Uwe Brandes and leading peacemakers to discuss the evolution of multi-sector place centered partnerships globally.

This one-hour workshop from the fall of 2023 featured the leaders of Place Management Organizations from Times Square, Los Angeles and San Francisco briefly describing how innovative approaches to integrating city and civic sector actions and information have led to improvements in addressing street homelessness.
